Description

This hybrid course helps the pediatric therapist become ‘vision-aware’ to improve recognition of undiagnosed vision issues and assess, document, and improve visual skills as appropriate.

Our understanding of the world is greatly influenced by our visual system, which impacts reading, writing, posture, the use of communication boards, and much more. Despite its significant effect on our children's functional abilities, our knowledge about this system is limited. This engaging course will cover the basic anatomy and physiology of the visual system, present evidence-based research, and discuss how visual deficits can complicate academics for some children. Therapists will learn to recognize subtle signs of undiagnosed vision-related learning impairments to better analyze standardized test results. Through hands-on lab work and case studies, attendees will gain confidence in assessing ocular motor and near vision focusing abilities, then design programs and use modifications to achieve optimal outcomes. Attendees will learn easy and fun techniques for improving these skills.
