Physicians, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Residents, Interns
The main goal of this series is to teach novice and veteran clinicians about healthcare disparities and the importance of inclusion and diversity in the work environment. These concepts are paramount in improving patient satisfaction and outcomes, ensuring that we are working toward a medical community that reflects the community it serves, and ultimately eliminating health care disparities. As this is important at a systems level, we aim to develop a curriculum that will engage learners at multiple levels from different departments to teach fundamental concepts around these topics. Included in this series of lectures (that will be an ongoing educational opportunity from year to year) will be topics such as: implicit bias, working with language services, working with the LGBTQ patient, addressing needs of the Hispanic/Latino community, the patient experience, etc. The goals for this series will be to ensure that we are fulfilling the requirements set forth by the national accrediting bodies for medical school and residency programs, to improve the cultural humility of our medical education system and to improve the patient experience within the healthcare system as a whole by raising awareness for all.
