Objectives

• Explain the problem with language in diabetes
• Identify person-centered, strengths-base, empowering messages
• List available language-related resources and where to find them
• Recognize the less common types of diabetes (monogenic, LADA, and idiopathic) though clinical characteristics and lab tests
• Identify treatment and education plans for each of the atypical types of diabetes
• Describe the current evidence regarding the connection between inflammatory chronic disease and gut health, including the role of the gut microbiome
• Discuss practical dietary strategies for improving overall gut health and inflammatory disease processes
• Identify the newest diabetes (DM) medications.
• Describe common drug information for new diabetes medications, including contraindications, warnings, adverse effects, dosing, drug interactions, monitoring, and clinical pearls when applicable.
• Discuss new medication updates regarding DM management and their implications for practice.
• Identify methods for integrating new medications and/or updates into practice using case studies scenarios.
• Compare personal and professional continuous glucose monitoring.
• Discuss the latest CGM technology and clinical application.
• Identify care management challenges of aging patients with diabetes and how an interdisciplinary care team can meet those challenges
• Discuss community resources to assist in the care of aging patients with diabetes
