This series is sponsored by Atrium Health Division of Pharmacy and free to Atrium Health pharmacists.This CE is part of the Pharmacy Resident Grand Rounds Series. This series provides disease state management and drug therapy updates on a variety of topics and are presented by Atrium Health Pharmacy Residents. It consists of four sessions and offers 1.0 hour of ACPE credit for each session. These programs are offered onsite at the Suzanne Freeman Auditorium at CMC Main or by Webinar. Titles and presenters will be posted as soon as available.

This knowledge-based CPE activity on September 26 will provide the healthcare professional with a better understanding of the primary literature regarding beta-lactam dose optimization via therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). It will enable them to make more informed decisions regarding this novel dosing strategy in select patient populations.

Objectives

  • Discuss the rationale for current dosing schemes of commonly used beta-lactam antibiotics
  • Identify pathophysiologic changes that may alter pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of beta-lactams
  • Discuss current strategies for beta-lactam TDM and patient populations most likely to benefit
