Description

This knowledge-based CPE activity will provide the healthcare professional with current and emerging evidence-based updates to help ensure best practices, minimize preventable healthcare related cost, and provide optimal patient care. Focused topic discussions will include updates in many areas including Pain Management, Cardiovascular and Kidney Disease in Diabetes, Immunization Updates, COVID updates and Beta-Lactam Allergy Assessments.

  • Define deprescribing and the common reasons for dose decreasing (de-escalation)(IVES)
  • Review guidelines for deprescribing medications (IVES)
  • Outline a plan by which a patient may be safely dose-reduced from opioids to minimize adverse events (IVES)
  • Identify new issues and updates in the pharmacotherapy for pain management (IVES)
  • Describe the impact of diabetes on the risk of cardiovascular and kidney disease (BLAKE)
  • Recognize the impact of social determinants of health on the development of complications from diabetes (BLAKE)
  • Summarize methods to optimize the nonpharmacologic recommendations to prevent and reduce the risk of complications from diabetes (BLAKE)
  • Discuss the evidence for the most recent recommendations for pharmacologic interventions to reduce the risk of cardiovascular and kidney disease related to diabetess (BLAKE)
  • Identify an appropriate plan to optimize health outcomes for patients with diabetess (BLAKE)
  • Review immunizations and immunization techniques for pharmacy practice (MABRY)
  • Define updates of recently approved and new indications for vaccines (MABRY)
  • Discuss the place in practice for recently approved and new indications for vaccines (BLAKE)
  • Review the evolution and natural history of the COVID-19 (WILLIAMS)
  • Describe strategies to prevent infection with SARS-CoV-2 Virus (WILLIAMS)
  • Discuss the role of therapeutic therapies in the management of COVID-19 infection (WILLIAMS)
  • Summarize the benefits of ß-lactam antibiotics and the pitfalls of ß-lactam allergy labels (JAFFA)
  • Classify the types of allergic reactions to ß-lactams and distinguish these from intolerances (JAFFA)
  • Identify patients who are appropriate for rechallenge with ß-lactam antibiotics and select an appropriate method (JAFFA)
