This conference is jointly provided by South Piedmont AHEC and NC-NACNS.

Please join us for 1.5 days of in-person learning and networking opportunities with a variety of topics designed for Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS), other advanced practice providers, nurse leaders, and interested clinicians. The first day of the conference will offer pharmacotherapeutic nursing contact hours with a focus on hot topics in pharmacology. You don’t want to miss the content on controversial trends in weight loss management, antibiotic stewardship, and preparing for prescriptive authority. On the second day, leading experts and regional speakers will examine a multitude of innovative topics. These topics will include strategies for improving outcomes, moving from abstract to publication, CNS & CNL collaboration and more.

Learning Outcome

Objectives

  • 1. Identify how the Consensus Model for APRN Regulation can change the practice of CNSs related to RX and Full Practice Authority.
  • 1. Discuss legislative changes needed For RX Authority and Full Practice Authority For students going forward and current CNSs.
  • 1. Review the mechanism of action, metabolic profile and hemodynamic effects of sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors.
  • 2. Participants will discuss the CVOT related to antihyperglycemic medications.
  • 2. Participants will identify medications that improve CV, DM, and obesity.
  • 3. Antimicrobial- Describe techniques to optimize antimicrobial durations of therapy and incorporate into your practice.
  • 3. Antimicrobial- Explain the importance of an accurate beta-lactam allergy assessment and its impact on patient care.
  • 3. Antimicrobial- Assess the need for antibiotic use in uncomplicated diverticulitis.
  • 3. Antimicrobial- Describe common antimicrobial drug-drug interactions and evaluate which are of clinical importance.
  • 4. Learners will be able to identify ECU College of Nursing - CNS Program’s updates and future directions.
  • 5. Analyze current process for hiring and onboarding.
  • 5. Review standardized tools for an individualized orientation process.
  • 5. Discuss plans for continued improvement to onboarding
  • 6. Identify trends that demonstrate a need for oncology competencies in generalist nursing practice.
