Social workers are a vital part of Atrium Health and the healthcare team. They are on the community front lines serving children, families, and individuals to help manage the obstacles impacting their lives. Social workers implement change and help to create a better society. The month of March is dedicated to raising awareness and bringing social work into the spotlight for the vital role it has as the community continues to grow and face many challenges. This symposium will provide the social workers within the Charlotte-Metro region of Atrium Health the opportunity to enhance and integrate knowledge, values, and skills of the social work profession for competent practice within the medical setting. It will acknowledge the role of social workers within the inpatient and outpatient setting while sharing Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) enterprise expectations, encouraging work-life integration and more.

The theme for Social Work Month 2024 is Empowering Social Workers!

Objectives

• Identify tools that support patients and families to seek self-determined goals towards social drivers of health.
• Identify language social workers can utilize when educating teammates and providers about the variety of roles social workers serve within medical settings and transdisciplinary medical teams.
• Create networking and collaboration opportunities for social workers within Atrium Health and understand how to best connect with others and tap into their strengths.
• Outline simple tools for work/life balance that can be helpful for social workers across work settings, age, culture, etc.
