Description

The purpose of this interactive seminar is to explore the impact of critical thinking on patient outcomes. Content includes practical critical thinking strategies (that work!), symptom analysis, barriers to and strategies that promote critical thinking, early recognition of impending doom in patients, and correlation between critical thinking and time management.

This program is jointly provided with Southern Regional AHEC.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this program, Participants will self-report applying at least one strategy that enhance critical thinking at the bedside.

Speaker:
Pam Collins, RN, MSN, CMSRN, RN-MEDSURG BC, NPD-BC
Pam has 40 years of varied nursing experiences that include administration/management, education, and work as an education and legal consultant. While Pam currently works as an Independent Consultant, she maintains her skills by working for a healthcare system in Charlotte, NC. Pam is dually certified in medical-surgical nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center and the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses and is also certified in Nursing Professional Development. Pam has extensive experience with the legal aspects of nursing practice and has served as a consultant and expert witness for medical-surgical related cases involving nurses.

Pam’s accomplishments include published author of articles, textbook chapters, and most recently, a medical-surgical nursing certification review book. She speaks nationally on clinical and legal topics for healthcare professionals. Pam has been the recipient of various awards, served as flight nurse in the United States Air Force Reserve, and past member of the advisory panel for the American Nurses Credentialing Center.

Objectives

  • Analyze definitions of critical thinking.
  • Describe how to perform Symptom Analysis.
  • Identify early symptoms of impending doom in patients.
  • Discuss barriers to critical thinking.
  • Implement strategies that enhance critical thinking at the bedside.
