Course Description
This 2-day course provides an in-depth exploration of rehabilitation practices for patients recovering from critical illness. Emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach, participants will learn the foundations and practical applications of rehabilitation evidence-based strategies in the critical care setting.

Through a combination of lectures and case studies, participants will develop the skills necessary to create comprehensive rehabilitation plans that optimizes function, improve quality of life, and support patients transitioning from critical care to recovery. Ideal for healthcare professionals seeking to expand their expertise in critical care rehabilitation, this course will empower participants to implement best practices in their clinical settings.

South Piedmont AHEC, as part of the NC AHEC system, is an approved provider by the North Carolina Board of Physical Therapy Examiners with regard to activities directly related to physical therapy for continued competence.

Occupational Therapists
As of July 1, 2018, the NCBOT no longer accepts applications for pre-approval of CCAs. OT practitioners need to make sure they are completing activities that comply with Section .0800 of the NCBOT Rules. Please select contact hours for your certificate.

Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists
South Piedmont AHEC will issue Certificates of Completion only; the participant must self-track and record the certificate for ASHA Certification Documentation. Choose contact hours or CEUs.

Objectives

  • Utilize tools gained to effectively communicate overall function and be an advocate with team during interdisciplinary rounds.
  • Describe the foundational knowledge of critical care therapeutic interventions.
  • Efficiently identify and break down barriers that could prevent early rehabilitation.
  • Identify and provide evidence-based research to support early therapeutic interventions in the critically care environment.
  • Verbalize understanding of methods to address mental health, family dynamics, and the importance of patient engagement in recovery.
  • Demonstrate understanding of outcome measure tools and metrics for evaluating the effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions.
