Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, and other health professionals and community members.

Description

This event offers a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals and community members to come together and share best practices and practical insights aimed at addressing the health inequities and disparities faced by the LGBTQ+ population. In light of anticipated legislation that may significantly affect the practice of medicine, we will explore the potential challenges and obstacles healthcare providers could face in offering equitable care.

The symposium is dedicated to strengthening healthcare systems, fostering hope, and promoting accessible care for LGBTQ+ patients, while emphasizing the urgent need to build a strong coalition among healthcare providers to navigate these evolving challenges and continue advocating for inclusive, compassionate care.

Objectives

  • Identify and address the unique challenges and obstacles faced by healthcare professionals in providing equitable care for the LGBTQ+ population, and to develop strategies and best practices that transform these obstacles into opportunities for improving patient outcomes and fostering a more inclusive healthcare environment.
  • Describe trends in LGBTQ+ policy at the national and state level and the impact of policy on population health.
  • Identify ways in which current LGBTQ-related legislation impacts their clinical practice through panel discussion and will develop a personalized action plan to address these impacts, ensuring improved and equitable care for LGBTQ+ patients.
  • Foster coalition building among healthcare providers by identifying and engaging allies who are committed to advocating for and supporting LGBTQ+ patients.
