Description

The OD2A Training Program is a comprehensive initiative funded by the CDC designed to support local jurisdictions in building robust surveillance infrastructure and guiding effective overdose prevention strategies. Mecklenburg County Public Health has prioritized three key prevention strategies to reduce the local burden of opioid overdoses:
• Linkage to Care
• Harm Reduction
• Enhancing Clinician and Health Systems Best Practices

This online training is a critical component of Mecklenburg County Public Health's efforts to combat the opioid overdose crisis.

Training Focus Areas:
1. Overdose Recognition and Response: Participants will receive in-depth education on recognizing the signs and symptoms of an overdose. This includes understanding the physical and behavioral indicators that someone may be experiencing an overdose, which is crucial for timely and effective intervention.
2. Naloxone Administration: The training will provide detailed, step-by-step instructions on the proper administration of naloxone, a life-saving medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. This module will cover everything from identifying when naloxone is needed to the correct techniques for administering it safely and effectively.
3. Actionable Care: Beyond naloxone administration, the training will guide participants on providing immediate and appropriate care during an overdose situation. This includes calling emergency services, performing rescue breathing or CPR if necessary, and ensuring the individual receives follow-up care.

By the end of this training, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively respond to opioid overdoses, ultimately contributing to the reduction of overdose fatalities in Mecklenburg County. Our goal is to empower community members with the tools they need to save lives and foster a safer, more informed community.

This online learning is offered free of charge by Mecklenburg County Public Health (MCPH).
