Description
As ECMO programs rapidly expand across healthcare systems, the need for well-trained, confident providers has never been greater. This immersive two-day training equips frontline clinicians - including nurses, respiratory therapists, perfusionists, and physicians - with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to deliver safe, effective ECMO care.
Through a blend of structured didactics and high-fidelity simulation, this course demystifies ECMO and builds clinical readiness. Attendees will gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting, emergency response, and team-based decision-making empowering them to confidently participate in ECMO delivery and support the sustainable growth of their institution’s ECMO program.
A Hands-On Training for Frontline Providers with two components:
Didactic on November 14: In person & virtually via Microsoft Teams.
Hands-On sessions November 15 OR 16: In person ONLY for the hands-on portion of the program - you will be able to select your option at time of checkout.
You must attend the didactic session on Friday and one of the hands-on sessions on Saturday to receive credit.

Objectives
- Define and explain the indications, contraindications, and physiological principles of ECMO, including differences between veno-venous (VV) and veno-arterial (VA) configurations.
- Recognize and assess clinical scenarios where ECMO may be appropriate and contribute to decision-making in emergent situations.
- Demonstrate and interpret ECMO circuit components, flow dynamics, and monitoring parameters.
- Apply structured approaches to manage common ECMO complications such as circuit failure, oxygenator dysfunction, bleeding, and hemodynamic instability.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with perfusionists, intensivists, nurses, and respiratory therapists to ensure high-quality ECMO care.
- Follow and evaluate institutional protocols and safety checklists to reduce variability and improve outcomes in ECMO delivery.
