Target Audience

This course is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, social workers and other healthcare professionals.

Description

The Summit will convene multidisciplinary public health professionals, community leaders and organizations, healthcare providers and advocates to explore innovative strategies that drive progress toward ending the HIV and syphilis epidemics. Anchored on the themes of innovation, empowerment and engagement, this year's summit will highlight cutting-edge approaches to prevention, testing and treatment, while celebrating the resilience and leadership of the communities most impacted.

This Summit is funded by Mecklenburg County Public Health, in collaboration with NC. Department of Health and Human Services and UNC Charlotte and jointly provided by South Piedmont Area Health Education Center. This program is offered FREE OF CHARGE. However, REGISTRATION is REQUIRED.

Accreditation Statement
In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Advocate Health and Mecklenburg County Public Health. Advocate Health is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
Advocate Health designates this live activity for a maximum 6.75 hours of CPE credit for (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians). CPE credit can be claimed on the AAH CE platform within 60 days of activity completion and information will be provided to CPE Monitor. Participants should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB)
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Advocate Health is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 6.75 general continuing education credits.

American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA)
Advocate Health has been authorized by the American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 6.75 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation.

American Board of Surgery (ABS)

Objectives

  • Describe 3 ways to prevent HIV transmission.
  • Explain the benefits of Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
  • Identify common signs and symptoms of syphilis.
  • Articulate appropriate CDC-recommended treatment for each stage of syphilis.
  • Discuss at least 3 public health services that are available for people living with HIV.
