Nurses who would like to sit for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing certification examination.
This 2 day review course is designed to refresh and strengthen the knowledge base of psychiatric–mental health nurse generalist Registered Nurses in the care and management of patients and families experiencing common mental, behavioral, and emotional health problems across the lifespan. Participants may earn contact hours that can be applied toward eligibility for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing certification examination offered through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Participants who successfully pass the exam will earn the PMH BC (Psychiatric Mental Health–Board Certified) credential. Test taking strategies, tips, and practice questions are included.

Kim Hutchinson, EdD, MSN, MS, PMHCNS-BC
Dr. Hutchinson has been a nurse for 40+ years. She is a board certified by ANCC in psychiatric mental health nursing and by the State of NC as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. Practice environments have included behavioral health emergency rooms, outpatient facilities, and forensic/legal settings. Drawing from this background, Dr. Hutchinson is a nurse/health promotion faculty, mentor, clinician and educator. Scope of practice includes a life-span developmental trajectory. From this lens, she continues to appreciate expanded views of human complexities and potentials.
Learner Outcome
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to apply psychiatric–mental health nursing competencies—including comprehensive assessment, therapeutic communication, and evidence based intervention planning—to the care of individuals and families experiencing common mental and behavioral health conditions.
CE Information
15.0 Nursing Contact Hours will be awarded to participants who attend 90% of this educational activity.
