Asthma, allergies, and diabetes are among the most common chronic health conditions affecting children today. Pediatric and school nurses are at the forefront of keeping students safe, healthy, and ready to learn. As guidelines, medications, and technology continue to evolve, staying current is essential for delivering timely and evidence-based care.

Learning Outcome:
Participants will be able to identify evidence-based strategies for managing pediatric asthma and allergies and differentiate the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia to facilitate appropriate assessment and intervention.

- Registrants cancelling between two weeks and five full business days prior to the first day of the event are "refunded at 70% of the registration fee subject to a minimum $25 cancellation fee."

Objectives

• Discuss the basic pathophysiology of asthma
• Accurately assess asthma exacerbations
• Manage acute asthma attacks effectively
• Implement evidence-based asthma and allergy management strategies
• Differentiate between the signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia and determine appropriate on-site nursing interventions.
• Implement immediate and evidence-based responses for managing blood glucose highs and lows, including carbohydrate replacement, glucagon administration, and coordination of emergency care when indicated.
• Develop individualized diabetes care strategies that include prevention of highs and lows during the school day, effective documentation, and communication with parents, staff, and healthcare providers.
