Description

“Going Beyond the Building Blocks of Child Life” focuses on building upon child life foundational skills, and exploring new and exciting ways to grow in the evolving child life profession. This workshop will provide educational opportunities for both child life professionals and students. Sessions offered will include topics such as mental illness in children, supporting siblings, grief and bereavement related interventions, and a student focused session. Presenters will share their professional experience, provide applicable strategies and evidence based information that will be helpful in practice. The workshop will allow networking opportunities for attendees as well as child life specialists with management or leadership roles. A total of 5.0 PDU's (Professional Development Units) will be provided.

Creating Lasting Memories is a presentation focused on thinking effectively with few resources available and navigating bereavement in various situations. This presentation will include working with both long term chronic patients, unexpected traumas and adult consults. Attendees can expect to learn how to be creative when the process can feel redundant and take away new strategies when working with children and families experiencing end of life situations.

This presentation will give Child Life students and new graduates the opportunity to discover ways for making this dream into a reality. Students will be given key ingredients for applying to internships, selecting and accepting internship placements, and completing the internship successfully. While new graduates, will receive tips for transitioning effectively from student to professional as well as how to maneuver in a work environment to achieve professional success.

This presentation will reveal some of the mysteries of the funeral home; what happens post mortem between when the body is released from the hospital to when a funeral takes place. The presentation will also address helpful ways to explain common funeral rituals such as cremation versus traditional burial with children.

This presentation highlights measures of burnout and presents a resource/intervention to create one’s individualized coping plan to combat burnout.
